The Intermediate Shaft Bearing or IMS bearing is a notorious failure point on late model Porsches including the popular 996 and some early 997 models. The removal of the transmission as well as special tools are needed for this replacement. Worse case scenario if the bearing fails is a complete engine failure that requires a tear down and inspection. Did you know your tires have date codes on them? It is important to periodically check your tires for things like uneven wear, tread depth and dry rot. It is recommended that tires be replaced at around the year 6 mark unless they are showing no signs of wear and age.
