The Intermediate Shaft Bearing or IMS bearing is a notorious failure point on late model Porsches including the popular 996 and some early 997 models. The removal of the transmission as well as special tools are needed for this replacement. Worse case scenario if the bearing fails is a complete engine failure that requires a tear down and inspection. Did you know your tires have date codes on them? It is important to periodically check your tires for things like uneven wear, tread depth and dry rot. It is recommended that tires be replaced at around the year 6 mark unless they are showing no signs of wear and age. In the 1st picture if you zoom in you can see the heavy dry rot these tires have in between the tread.

We often get calls that start of with, “how much...” and our usual follow up is, “bring it in, lets have a look”. Sometimes new clients are perplexed as to why we can’t quote pricing over the phone. We would love to be able to nail down accurate pricing with a simple inquiry, it certainly would make our lives a whole lot easier! Unfortunately through our experience it is unprofessional, inaccurate and most importantly not in the best interest to our clients. For example this vehicle pictured had some boost related fault codes that a search engine might point to some sensor issues. Problems on vehicles are not always cut and dry as fault code = fix. It turns out that this particular vehicle had some furry friends chew up some wires in the engine bay which caused a myriad of issues. What we tell potential clients is we offer a no cost consultation so we can be transparent with direction to go in with a repair and most importantly, a free and accurate estimate.
